Cafe Poet
Anne M Carson - widely published and broadcast Melbourne poet as our first Cafe Poet. Funded through Bendigo Bank's Community Grants Programme, Anne will be resident in the cafe to listen to your stories and write poems inspired by them.
Anne M Carson is my writing name. I teach Creative Writing and Poetry Appreciation here at Kew and am so excited by the possibilities of promoting literature in all it’s guises at the Centre.
Outside the Centre my passion is the writing of poetry and prose. I have been published in the USA and widely in Australia and broadcast many times on Radio National including occasions when I curated two PoeticA programmes. One of these featured Writing on the Wall, a long poem by me on the freeing on the slaves in ancient Greece.
Last year I won the Martha Richardson Poetry Medal and this year I have come equal first in the inaugural Stones Winery poetry competition and crowned Bard of the Stables.
In Feb/March 2012 you’ll see me hanging out in the café as a café poet – ready to hear your stories and hopefully – turn them into poems.

The Cultures Together project matches members of Culturally and Linguistically diverse Community. Via our project, people who speak English as a second language are paired up with a lnaguage mentor, to provide opportunities for conversational English practice. Through this pairing we aspire for people to develop cross cultural understanding between them and potentially develop ongoing friendships.
